“The women taking part in the protests are activists — especially active — and special methods are being used against them. We have seen home raids, for example the case of the pregnant woman Mariam Bajelidze. They broke into the home of a woman seven months pregnant, who was there with a small child. Also, when one of the conscience prisoners was detained, his wife was physically humiliated, which caused her to suffer abdominal injuries. Women are being stripped in detention cells… we have women who are conscience prisoners… and we hear the rhetoric of so-called officials who say that activist women are not women… Show us who you are women, then — we hear this rhetoric very often. Many legislative measures have also been taken against women. Gender has been removed from virtually all laws, and today we want to gather all the accumulated anger and hold a march of angry women…”

Nana Tohvadze:
“For the first time in Georgia’s history we have women political prisoners — women who are fighting for a better future for this country, for a European future. And not only were more than 60 political prisoners not enough for them, they have put women — Mzia Amaghlobeli, Nino Datashvili, Elene Khoshtaria — in jail on absurd charges. We do not have the right to give up. We must not afford ourselves the luxury of staying at home — rain, snow, or frost — we are obliged to fight for the regime’s prisoners, to stand outside and achieve justice. This country will surely win and we will reach a peaceful, European Georgia.”

Natia Gvritishvili:
“Women are not alone — we are still here. Despite the fact that ‘Georgian Dream’ is fighting us, hiring titushki [thugs], and putting us through many hardships… we are here, we are not going anywhere… we are here and we express solidarity with women, with mothers, with our sisters, with women in the regions who have been left alone and no longer have supporters. Even those NGOs that used to help in the fight against abusers — we tell them: we are not leaving. We will protect each other, we will protect our sisters and our mothers, and we tell ‘Georgian Dream’ that we are very angry. We, the women, are not afraid of them…”
