Formula TV journalist and presenter Eliso Jariashvili says the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is accusing her of blocking the road. According to her, the case concerns March 12, when she was filming interviews with citizens on an already closed section of Rustaveli Avenue for her program.
Speaking to Publika, Jariashvili says an MIA representative informed her that a report had been filed against her but did not allow her to explain that she was performing her professional duties.
“Sure, nothing surprises us anymore, but this was still unexpected. I was doing my job as a journalist, filming interviews on Rustaveli, which was already blocked. I remember the day very clearly — it was March 12. […] If you’re asking for my opinion or assessment, maybe the regime should just formally abolish journalism altogether — would probably be easier than all this hassle. Because clearly, nothing else is stopping us, and they can see that,” said Eliso Jariashvili.

„კი აღარაფერი აღარ გვიკვირს, მაგრამ მაინც მოულოდნელი იყო, ჟურნალისტურ საქმიანობას ვასრულებდი, უკვე გადაკეტილ რუსთაველზე ინტერვიუებს ვწერდი, ზუსტად მახსოვს ეს დღე, რომელზეც მედავებიან, 12 მარტია. […] თუ ჩემი პოზიციას გაინტერესებთ და შეფასებაც, უკვე ბარემ პირდაპირ ჟურნალისტიკა გააუქმოს რეჟიმმა, ალბათ ჯობია ამდენ წვალებას, იმიტომ, რომ არაფერი არ გვაჩერებს სხვა, ხედავენ“, – ამბობს ელისო ჯარიაშვილი.

“On February 16, Public Broadcaster reporter Tozu Gulmamedova was performing her professional duties on Rustaveli Avenue. On April 8, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs informed her of a fine. The journalist is being accused of blocking the road,” reports the Public Broadcaster.
Tozu Gulmamedova’s case is not the first — there have already been 16 documented incidents in which police have accused journalists, who were carrying out their professional work at the time, of “artificially blocking the road.”
