In short, this is an alarm signal for me. This is not only about our theatre — this is about the country. This theatre is Georgia. Georgia is me, and each one of you.

Every mother will weep if we don’t all rise to our feet — that’s how I see it.

They don’t care about art, they don’t care about theatre. They think Georgia is a brothel. They think this country is a brothel, to be used and violated as they wish — but it is not so.

I have repeated Shakespeare’s words, which they mistook for my own: better a bad epitaph upon your grave, than the ill will of actors. And here, for me, actors mean the people.

I never wanted these moments to come. I don’t know what I will do tomorrow or the day after. But I call on all of you: save this country — and save yourselves first of all.

Following the performance of “Protest Manifesto”, the director of the New Theatre, Davit Doiashvili, was dismissed from his position.

“They froze my accounts. People, this is unbelievable. I was never served any fine notice,” writes activist Tamar Kuratishvili on social media, sharing a screenshot of a notification from the bank.

A few days earlier, she was detained for holding a protest banner that read:
“Antsukhelidze is immortal.”
