The Ministry of Internal Affairs fined Mariam Nikuradze, a multimedia journalist and co-founder of OC Media, twice for “blocking the road,” with a total fine of 10,000 GEL.
As on other days, on both March 11 and 15, Nikuradze was performing her journalistic duties — wearing a press badge and carrying a camera — yet police still fined her.
“When I’m at protests, I’m always doing journalistic work. I had my press badge and camera this time too…” Nikuradze told Radio Liberty.
Mariam Nikuradze is one of the winners of the 2024 EU Prize for Journalism. She reports daily on the pro-European protests taking place in the capital, whose main demands are the holding of new elections and the release of individuals detained under criminal charges.

Today, after turning from Besiki Street onto Rustaveli Avenue following the protest, I saw Eto — the woman who stands every day between police patrol cars holding the Georgian flag, reminding everyone that Rustaveli is blocked off for protest that day as well.
I was taking a photo of her through the rain-covered window — wanting to capture that even in rain, wind, and storm, Eto never betrays us; she’s always there. Suddenly, it hit me — I could show my support to Eto from my car. So, I started honking.
Her face lit up instantly — she smiled and began waving. Her joyful expression sent me home with a renewed sense of strength!
I hope others have done the same before me — but if you haven’t yet, and you find yourself passing Eto by car, make sure she hears your support. We all need it!
Eto, thank you! I truly count on you!

დღეს ბესიკის ქუჩიდან ჩამოვუხვიე რუსთაველზე აქციის მერე და პატრულის ეკიპაჟებთან რომ ვატრიალებდი, ეთო დავინახე საქართველოს დროშით, ყოველ დღე რომ ეკიპაჟებს შორის დგას და ყველას ამცნობს, რომ იმ დღესაც რუსთაველი პროტესტისთვისაა გადაკეტილი.
ფოტოს ვუღებდი ნაწვიმარი შუშის მიღმა, რომ აი, წვიმაშიც, ქარშიც და ავდარშიც ეთო არ გვღალატობს, სულ აქ დგას, რომ უცბად თავში დამარტყა, ეთოსთვისაც შემეძლო მენიშნებინა ჩემი მხარდაჭერა მანქანიდან და დავიწყე სიგნალი. ეთოს უცბად სახე გაუნათდა, გაეღიმა და ხელის ქნევა დაიწყო. მისმა ბედნიერმა სახემ სხვა შემართებით დამაბრუნა სახლში!
იმედი მაქვს, ეს სხვასაც ბევრჯერ გაუკეთებია ჩემამდე მაგრამ ვისაც ჯერ არა და ეთოსთან მანქანით მოხვდებით, აუცილებლად გააგონეთ თქვენი მხარდაჭერა, ეს ყველას გვჭირდება!
ეთო, მადლობა! შენი იმედი ნამდვილად მაქვს!
