Mariam Mekantsishvili, arrested in connection with the October 4 case, was released from detention after paying a 10,000 GEL bail.
The community helped raise the bail funds.

The Prosecutor’s Office accuses Mekantsishvili of organizing group actions on October 4. She was arrested on October 17. The article under which she was charged carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.

According to her lawyer, Nino Svanidze, a member of the party Droa and activist, has likely been detained under administrative proceedings. She is reportedly being accused of blocking the road.

Svanidze recently posted on social media that police came to her home yard. “They’re taking me to the station; they said they’ll bring me back. Be aware,” she wrote.

Under recent amendments to the Administrative Offenses Code, participants in gatherings and demonstrations can face up to 15 days of administrative detention for partially or fully blocking a roadway, if the protest could otherwise have been held in another way considering the number of participants.

Grandma Aza was stopped by dozens of police officers near the Freedom Metro. They confiscated her medical mask and issued a citation claiming that the mask belonged to her.
