The prisoners of the regime are represented at the protests by their family members. Archil Museliants had no one — no one who could hold a banner with his image, attend his court hearings, or speak to journalists about an orphaned boy from the regions who was arrested for damaging a surveillance camera.

This role was taken on by Tsaro. She hastily made a sign with photos of the prisoner and tries to make sure the boy knows he is not forgotten. Tsaro told me, “I met Archil at the protests. He would say, ‘No one will ask about me, but I’ll give everything I have.’” And he truly gave everything — but now, someone is asking about him.

That’s how an orphaned prisoner gained a godmother, who received from prison a hand-drawn Georgian flag and a poem by Galaktioni:

“Those who gave their lives, who shed their blood,
The nation lights candles to honor their memory…
Raise the flags high!”
