Today, November 3, chemistry teacher and co-founder of Tbilisi Free Waldorf School Manana Javashvili was arrested on the pretext of blocking a road.
In the same case, her sister, also a teacher, Eka Javashvili, has been summoned to court.
Manana Javashvili’s son, Giga Tsibakhashvili, has also been detained, and her other son, Lado Tsibakhashvili, has been summoned to court.

“They arrested Aza grandma — so what could possibly stop me now?” she said, took a flag and a sheet of paper reading “Aza grandma, I’m here in your place”, and stood proudly and stubbornly in the middle of Rustaveli Avenue, fully aware that she would likely be arrested. When her arm grew tired from waving the flag, she would switch the paper and the flag between her hands and keep on protesting. In the end, she was arrested near Liberty Square metro station.

— You are probably aware that in the case of a repeated offense, a criminal case will be initiated against you.

— I know, they told me. I will not be afraid. I will still do what I believe is right.

— Ms. Aza, you are being tried by a displaced judge from Gali — you probably know this. What would you like to say to him?

— I don’t know what to tell him… They shouldn’t be fighting grandmothers — they should be fighting for the truth. They’ve adopted an illegal law and keep calling it a law… They twist that law to suit themselves.

— Could you once again explain the purpose of your protest to the public, and to the authorities who decided to detain you — a 71-year-old woman?

— I do not obey. I will not obey. I know that if I go out tomorrow, I will be tried under criminal law. I will. I’ll go and serve time. If I go to prison, someone else will appear. Today a young girl was sitting there — she fought hard, Anastasia Japaridze, I think. We were sitting together and we pushed back against them a lot, resisted them a lot. They brought many more people in. We shouted “Fight to the end” from inside. We fight to the end, my dear — I don’t know any other way.

— Will you go out again tomorrow, even though you know you are facing up to one year in prison?

— I will. I’ll block the road again, my dear — I’ll be the first to step out.
