How hypocritical are those who get outraged over vulgarity in art or supposed offenses to religion, yet stay silent in the face of real injustices: women beaten and bruised during protests, girls doused in green antiseptic, entire cities left without livelihoods, the damaged frescoes of Gelati, or a man tortured to death in prison.

In Batumi, an Activist is Being Tried for Posting a Sticker – The Trial of Tsiala Katamidze

Tsiala Katamidze was detained at a protest in Batumi on January 11, 2025, for posting a sticker that read “Georgia Stirkes”. She placed the sticker in a public space—on the entrance of the Adjara Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The activist was detained by Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze under Article 150 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which refers to the defacement of appearance. However, Article 150 of the Administrative Code does not grant police the authority to detain individuals.
