“In a country where metro stations have been closed for years, where roads have been dug up for years and no one investigates why — in such a country, blocking a road for 20 minutes is treated as a criminal offense.

If anyone truly cared about roads being blocked, they would investigate corruption first and arrest Kakha Kaladze before anyone else. The real purpose of all this is to intimidate protesters.

I acknowledge the fact [of stepping onto the road], I’m simply explaining the reasons.
I do not consider myself guilty, even though I admit the fact. This law is unjust, and it is our duty not to obey it. I will continue to protest — in this or another form — until you and others serving this regime find yourselves sitting in this very [defendant’s] chair,” said primary school teacher Marine Nanava during her court hearing.

Around nine in the evening — despite fear of injustice, oppression, and imprisonment — about twenty people block Rustaveli Avenue for half an hour. The rest of us stand on the sidewalk, watching and cheering on these fearless people.

The police always rush in as if we were internationally wanted criminals walking down Rustaveli. With stern, furious faces, they either stand in formation or speed by in minivans, shouting, “Clear the area!”

During that short time — as you’ll see in my video — provocateurs always appear.
That driver truly belongs to the past… if he could, he’d have gladly run people over. But what did the person standing in his way do wrong? That person was born free and deserves to live in a country that values that freedom.
